Yeah, no, these ads are terrible and are only directed at women. The “Special K Diet” is basically “eat a tiny bowl of cereal twice a day instead of a normal meal.” That’s not a healthy or sustainable dietary choice. If you ate a small bowl of ANY cereal twice a day instead of a full meal, you’d probably lose weight.
Special K tastes like tree bark. Fuck ‘em and fuck their body-shaming and their stupid ‘diet’.
I literally can’t even get over how absurd half the things theses so-called liberal/progressive tumblrs get so “righteously offended” by. If you want to encourage young women to feel good about themselves, to some degree thats a noble cause, but please, do so within the bounds of reality. No amount of indignant little blog post about “body-shaming” are ever gonna change the fact that certain physical features are found more sexually attractive to human beings when maintained in a certain fashion. Its Ironic that you run around deriding conservatives (rightfully so, ofcourse) for their denial of evolution, while failing to accept even the most basic implications of evolution for our society. Sure theirs multifarious degrees of attraction and variation within the spectrum of what one is attracted to, but, overwhelmingly so, most people who are sexually attracted to women, for instance, find such features as Special K is trying to emphasize attractive. Ergo, Its equally natural for human beings to strive to make themselves as attractive mates as possible, ie. women attempting to make their bodies fit as much as possible the physical form which those oriented sexually toward women have an deep-seeded evolutionary imperative to pro-create with. You can hate the Capitalist system for creating amoral corporations all you want, but I see no sense in deriding Kellogg for attempting to make money of providing a service which it is completely natural for human beings to desire. The thing is, in the miasma of your reactionary offense at individuals being discriminated against for their body-types, you’ve illogically jumped to the conclusion that such discrimination is wrong because all body types are equal. They’re not. Some Body types are more attractive to the majority of potential mates, and thus one should naturally be driven to assume such a body type. That being said, people shouldn’t be derided for their body type, and a measure of basic human respect, but there is more or less an average ideal of the human body for the majority of the population, and its natural for one to A) be attracted to it, B) seek to fit into it. Its your prerogative to deviate from said norm, and there’s nothing immoral about it, but don’t then turn around and demand everyone conform to you’re specific ideal of the human body, or lack their off, which fails to fit ones natural impulses, and thus would truly bring about discomfort, grief, and stress within the human psyche. Oh and to the person complaining about high fructose cornsyrup, fuck you and you’re idiotic, misinformed, “organic” bullshit.
Ahoy! A fat-shaming mansplainer with some generalizations about evolution to back it up!
Did you ever stop to think that maybe YOUR idea of what’s attractive was maybe a little big influenced by society and the media? That ads like this, that you’ve seen your whole life, have maybe influenced how you perceive beauty in women? Look at Rubens’ paintings of beautiful fat women. During the Renaissance, chubby women were VERY desirable and it was the highest fashion to have some curves.
Don’t hide behind “wah, it’s evolution!” Your desire to love women who look like this - and only like this - is a big ol’ function of a lifetime of social conditioning.
Furthermore, sex and procreation are not the sole and primary goal of every woman everywhere. Sorry to let you down, but not every girl is eating 3/4 of a cup of Special K twice a day so you’ll deign to mate with her.
