I try not to engage with Paulbots, but I can’t resist this one…
coeus replied to your post: So, I’m registered unaffiliated, which means I get to vote in the Republican primaries if they happen to make it to North Carolina. I believe in voting, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to vote. Which member of the Island of Misfit Toys (Republican nominees for Presidential) is would be the best option?Huntsman? Least homicidal? Are you forgetting that Ron Paul has been opposed to every war US has perpetuated during his time in office?Huntsman is coming out NOW against some of the things Ron Paul has been against all his life. What’s the deal?Ron Paul’s anti-war posturing means nothing when you consider his views on everything else. I cannot find any fucks to give about his opposition to war.
But then again, I’m not an anti-statist of any kind, and I’m very pro-government assistance. Ron Paul has absolutely zero appeal to me.
He wants to slash nearly every kind of social welfare program we have here—whoops, there go the poor and disabled. He wants to cut low income energy assistance, food stamps, medicaid and child nutrition programs. He’s opposed to government-funded healthcare. He’s anti-choice—but who cares about the lives of pregnant people, right? He wants to abolish minimum wage when we don’t even have a living wage.
This blog has never been supportive of Ron Paul. I’m not going to get into an ideological debate about Paul’s particular brand of libertarianism, especially since Jess and Joe aren’t here (suffice it to say that I think it’s incredibly short-sighted and downright, yes, homicidal). But if you don’t think Ron Paul would gleefully let millions of people flounder and die in the name of some twisted bootstrap-y idea of freedom, I don’t think you’ve thought critically about the havoc Ron Paul’s economic plan would actually wreak.
